Safe Sport Recognition Program
The Safe Sport Recognized Club Program (SSRP) allows a USA Swimming member club to demonstrate its commitment to creating an abuse-free, safe, healthy, and positive environment for all its members. Using a web-based tool through their club portal, clubs can earn SSRP status by describing club procedures, uploading their policies, and verifying education and training efforts. Once completed, clubs receive a badge to display on their club website and will be designated as Safe Sport Recognized on the USA Swimming Find-A-Club online search tool. 1. Group Presentations Presented by USA Swimming:
Starting April 2020, the USA Swimming Safe Sport staff has been hosting Zoom trainings for parents, minor athletes and coaches to assist clubs in completing the Training and Education requirement of the Safe Sport Club Recognition program

2. Indiividual Required Education
For every 10% of the club's housholds to complete this training the team will earn 1 piont towards their Safe Sport Recognition Program (SSRP). Step-by-Step instructions for Athletes and Parents. How to create and link child's account, link here.
- Turn off pop up blockers on your web browser
- Go to https://university.usaswimming.org/landing.
- Click on Athletes.
- Click on SSRP.
- Click on View Info.
- Click on Start.
- Click on Login; You will be prompted to login or create a login if you are not currently a member.
- Click on Start.
- Once the course is complete click on the “Submit Button” and complete the survey at the end of the course.
- To download the certificate, click on view transcript and click on the course “Download Certificate” button. (Sometimes it takes the system a little bit to update. Click Ctrl+Shift+R to refresh the screen or you may need to log out and then back in again later).

3. Virtual Team Meetings

Virtual Team Meeting
USA Swimming member clubs are seeking unique opportunities to remain connected with athletes and parents. One unique way to remain connected and complete the training component of Safe Sport Club Recognition is to host a virtual training.
- Schedule a virtual meeting for either parents or athletes to attend.
- Visit
https://www.usaswimming.org/; Click on “Login/Register” to log in to your account.
- Select link below to do to the direct training.
- For a parent training, select Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport.
- For an athlete training, select Safe Sport for Youth Athletes (13-17).
- For young athlete training, select SafeSport for Kids (5-12).
- To access the youth or kids training you will need to be logged into a kids or youth account. Another option is to go to www.safesporttrained.org and login to see and access all trainings.
- Conduct a virtual meeting with athletes or parents by sharing your screen and viewing the training course together. When you share your screen, ensure that you also share the sound from your device so those watching can hear the training audio.
- Record attendance. A simple way to do this is to have participants send their name to the training host using a chat function.
- Send the attendance record to
ssrp@usaswimming.org. USA Swimming staff will manually update the Club application. (athletes will not receive a certificate and it will not be recorded on their individual accounts.)
Reminder: A virtual meeting with minor athletes is an electronic communication and the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy requirements apply:
- If you are meeting with only one athlete, that athlete’s guardian/parent must also be included.
- If you are meeting with multiple athletes, another adult must also be included.
- The meeting must be held between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Troubleshooting Required Training:
Clubs can run reports on who has completed the training online at their own pace. Review the link on how to run those reports: Reports for Online Education. Note that if your parents are saying they took the course but they are not showing up on the roster it is likely that the parent is not connected to their athlete in the system. In that case the club should email the parents and their athlete’s name to Trish Hughes at ssrp@usaswimming.org and she can get the accounts connected. For Zoom training participation: If the club wants a roster of who completed zoom trainings for their club they would email ssrp@usaswimming.org and Trish Hughes will send them a report.
Addtionional Training:
- Athlete Protection Training (APT) - Required annual training for Non-Athlete members and Adult Athlete members (18&O) of USA Swimming.
- Additional US Center for Safe Sport Youth Athlete Training Courses - free, online training sessions hosted at athletesafety.org, designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers. Courses available for ages pre-K, K-2, 3-5, Middle School, and High School.
- Athlete Protection Training for Adult Athletes with Cognitive Disabilities - USA Swimming recognizes that the required APT course may not be appropriate for some adult athlete members with cognitive disabilities

- Safe Sport Mondays Safe Sport Mondays is a national program to launch conversations within swim clubs about everyday issues that clubs face. Having regular, short conversations about different teams and Safe Sport-related issues can strengthen a club's values and open productive communication channels. The goal - spark meaningful conversations and build strong, healthy communities within clubs. Once per month, coaches read a SCENARIO with their swimmers and have a short, 5-10 minute discussion about the scenario. - Also consider Coaching Boys Into Men and Athletes Into Leaders These FREE programs have been tested and proven by coaches, athletes, educators, and leaders to be a powerful tool for promoting respect, building team culture, supporting intervention, reporting abuse, and violence prevention. Each is ideally suited for Safe Sport Mondays.

5 Safe Sport Meet Announcements for Scoreboard or Announcer
Safe Sport Impact Award - The purpose of this USA Swimming award is to recognize significant achievements by an individual or group who has contributed to the fulfillment of the Safe Sport mission to safeguard all members of USA Swimming from sexual, psychological, emotional, and physical abuse. Nominations can be submitted through May 31. All nominations will be reviewed, and a recipient is selected prior to the US Aquatic Sports Convention. The recipient will be honored at Convention.
